Daddies, do not read this post. Avert your eyes! Potential spoiler for your Father’s Day gift just ahead!
Ladies, my mother-in-law and daughters, ages 5 and 6, spent a little time creating these coasters this week. They turned out so cute, and were really easy to make.
***For those looking for a project that is less glue-intensive, check out my downloadable PDF for Dad.***
What you need:
-small tiles (I used 4×4″ travertine tiles, purchased at Home Depot for $3.97/pack of 9)
-wallet-sized photos
-decorative paper (I used the 12×12″ scrapbook paper from Michaels)
-Mod Podge (we used the matte version, also purchased from Michaels)
-gel medium/acrylic polymer (I got mine on amazon.com) to add a protective coat to the coaster
-clear sealant for further waterproofing (I used Rust-oleum clear gloss, purchased at Home Depot for $3.87/can)
How to make the coasters:
-cut the decorative paper so that each square is just smaller than the tile, so you will still be able to see some of the tile around the edges
-cut the pictures so that they are smaller than the decorative paper
-apply a thin layer of mod podge to the tile and affix the paper to it
-apply a thin layer of mod podge over the paper and affix the photo to it; smooth out air bubbles from underneath the picture
-let it dry to touch
-apply a thin layer of mod podge to the whole tile/paper/picture and let it dry to touch
-apply a thin layer of gel medium to the top of everything and let it dry
-spray each coaster with the clear gloss sealant, let dry, and repeat
-put felt circles on the bottom of the tiles to protect your furniture
-wrap with a pretty bow and present it to Dad on Father’s Day!

I just did these and they are so easy. I used the bathroom tiles from Lowes (87 cents/ea), I pulled pictures from FB page, copied to Word and made them 4 X 4, cut the corners(nice touch), they have spray can of Modge Podge, I sprayed the tiles, put the picture in place and sprayed on top. Let dry 15 min and spray again, 5 times. Perfect gift!
Hi there,
Just wondering what section of a craft store you’d find felt circle feet?
Thanks
Hi Tara! You could probably find them in the tape/furniture protector/extension cord area of Target; I’m pretty sure that’s where I got mine! They are self-stick and come in several sizes.
